A CRIS driven by research community: benefits and perspectives

The Science as a branch of human activity tends to be unified and universal. Accordingly, there is a general demand to integrate heterogeneous research results and to coordinate distributed research activities. In recent years it is doing by federating IRs and CRISs of research organizations in a form of unified research data and information space (DIS) and by providing for research results from local IRs/CRISs a universal circulation mechanism and tools/conditions for its maximal usage. Integrated research information system has a functionality of a full CRIS. Since individual researchers and organization participate in this on federation principles, this CRIS is driven by research community. Added-value of such CRIS is a new research virtual environment that complements the currently existed science system and compensates its weaknesses and shortcomings. The paper's focus is an improvement of the effectiveness of the science system and its impact on the society achieved by development of forms and methods using by scientists to share their research results with society within the new virtual environment, as well as the forms and methods in which society identifies which research results were used, by whom and for what purposes. The proposed approach is currently implementing under the Socionet project as a pilot version of new virtual research environment for Russian research organizations and community of scientists.
